Customer Benefits of Agile

The use of Agile supports customer driven development by means of:

Frequent delivery

Early and frequent deliveries provide confidence that the project is progressing and gives opportunities for the early identification and correction of problems.

The customer can evaluate these releases on a more continuous basis rather than waiting until the final project delivery.

The policy of frequent deliveries makes Agile particularly suitable for use with offshore development teams.

Iterative and Incremental Delivery

System functionality is introduced progressively in a series of incremental iterations where each new iteration refines and builds upon the experience from the previous iteration. Consequently the system functionality grows progressively and securely, and enables problems to be more quickly identified, isolated and corrected.

The system functionality is being developed progressively and therefore the documentation suite is only progressed incrementally in line with the development. Consequently the documentation suite will not be complete until the last iteration.

Continuous Testing

Within an iteration testing is performed at several levels from unit testing to integration testing, system testing and acceptance testing. Testing each iteration confirms that what is being developed is fit for purpose and forms a stable platform for the next iteration.

The customer can start their System testing and Acceptance testing before the final iteration of the software becomes available.

Improved Cost Control

The development progresses over a series of iterations that can be each be evaluated by the customer. Consequently Agile increases the customers control and provides opportunities to mitigate commercial risk.
